| SMILES the Bear |

We are extremely thankful to Margaret one of our ‘Essex Volunteers’ for hand making our very own ‘Smiles’ the bear. We decided that it would be wonderful to send a teddy to the children that we support. Margaret embroiders the child’s name onto his paw, pops him into his own handmade bag and sends him directly to the child. Often the funds that we provide help the family as a whole and we thought it would be great for the child to receive their very own gift from CKT.

| Essex Volunteers |

We are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful group of ladies who volunteer a lot of their personal time in order to raise awareness of CKT and also to raise much needed funds. This team of ladies organise events throughout the year including ‘Christmas Sale’s, Pub Quizzes, Charity Presentations, Bootfairs and many more. To date they have raised over £8000 to which we are extremely grateful as this goes along way in helping the families that we work with. Thank you ladies!

| Peru Trek |

Nesheta Patel of Beaverbrooks the Jewellers is a long time supporter of the Children’s Kidney Trust, previously a manager of one of their stores she helped to raise vital funds for the charity by organising many events. However, this time she really did show her individual support by trekking across Peru for 4 days. Nesheta described the trip as a wonderful opportunity to raise funds, meet new people and fulfil a lifetime ambition of visiting Peru. Nesheta had great support for the event from friends and work colleagues and with Beaverbrooks matched funding she raised £3000. Our most sincere thanks go to Nesheta for her continued support.

| CKT 10th birthday |

6th April 2008 saw us celebrate our 10th Birthday. We were originally formed to support families and nurses who specialised in paediatric renal treatment and care however, the past 10 years have seen so much development in the world of transplantation and treatment that our support system has changed to reflect this. We now focus solely on helping families with children who have kidney problems but in two major ways, firstly by way of helping families directly with financial support and secondly by offering our ‘Birthday Club’ project to hospitals where nurses organise birthday parties and a small gift for children who will be receiving treatment in hospital on their birthdays. We are inviting individuals and companies to help celebrate our birthday year by organising an event or making a birthday donation in aid of CKT,

We are pleased to report that this event, held at the Admiral Jellicoe on Canvey Island, lived up to its expectations, and raised a total of £682.00
